Air Canada’s Swift Response to Security Breach Leaves Customer Data and Flights Unaffected

By Dennis Mutua,

Canada’s largest airline by size and passenger carried Air Canada (TSE: AC) has revealed having experienced a brief security breach in its internal systems linked to the personal information and records of some employees.

Such incidents are always alarming however, the airline says no customer information was accessed in the cyberattack further adding that it has contacted individuals whose personal data whose information was involved and notified the relevant authorities.

The office of federal private commissioner acknowledged having received a breach report from Air Canada which is under review so as to determine the next step.

The breach in the airline’s systems was detected and addressed promptly by the company’s cybersecurity team since Air Canada announced that flight operation systems and public-facing platforms were unaffected.

With all systems now back to full operations, the airline says it has implemented extra security upgrades to prevent future incidents. Air Canada has assured its customers that their personal and financial information remains secure.

One reassuring aspect of this incident is that flight operations remained entirely unaffected. Passengers continued to travel without disruption, and flight schedules remained intact.

Such cybersecurity cases have been on an increasing trajectory this year with Air Canada being the latest victim of Canadian companies to get affected by system breaches this year. Among other companies which have experienced the same include Suncor Energy and grocery giant Empire.
