Coastal GasLink Pipeline Project Nearing the Finish Line at 98% Progress

By Dennis Mutua,

Energy company TC Energy Corp. (TSE: TRP) has revealed that the Coastal GasLink Pipeline, a crucial energy infrastructure in Canada is nearing completion, with 98% of the construction already accomplished.

The Coastal GasLink Pipeline is a 670-kilometer-long natural gas pipeline that will transport natural gas from the Montney Basin in northeastern British Columbia to the LNG Canada facility near Kitimat on the Pacific coast.

The pipeline is designed to supply natural gas to the LNG Canada export terminal, where it will be liquefied and shipped to global markets.

TC Energy claims that the pipeline will be mechanically complete before the year wraps up. The project has adhered to strict environmental standards and safety protocols to minimize its impact on the surrounding ecosystems and communities.

Earlier in the year, TC Energy raised the estimated cost for the Coastal GasLink to $14.5 billion, a significant increase from the previous $11.2 billion and more than double the initial cost estimate of $6.2 billion.

Despite the project’s impressive progress, it has not been without its share of controversies and challenges. Some Indigenous groups and environmental activists have expressed concerns about the pipeline’s impact on local ecosystems and the potential for oil and gas development to contribute to climate change.

Protests and legal challenges have spiked leading to legal debates about the balance between economic development and environmental preservation.
