Disney Plus Launches Stricter Security Measures Against Password Sharing in Canada

By Dennis Mutua,

Subscription video-on demand streaming company Disney Plus is taking action against unauthorized in Canada by cracking down on password sharing. This move will protect is streaming content and revenue.

The company will be taking steps to ensure only authorized users can access their platform. In an email send to Canadian users, Disney revealed restrictions on Canadian subscribers including the ability for a subscriber to share their account or log in credentials outside their household.

Disney Plus updated its Canadian Subscriber Agreement to read that users cannot share a subscription outside their household unless permitted by their account tier further nothing that violations could lead to Disney Plus limiting or terminating service.

According to the company’s help center, a household covers a collection of devices linked to the subscriber’s primary residence and used by the individual who lives there.

These restrictions are part of multiple updates to the company’s Subscriber Agreement which are expected to come into effect for most Canadian users on November 1. Annual subscribers could see the changes bit later depending on their billing cycle and for users who switch their plan before November 1 the changes will take place with immediate effect.

As previously stated back in August, November 1 is when the streaming giant will roll out ad-supporting tier both in Canada and selected European markets. This ad tier was rolled across the United States back in December 2022.
