Corus Entertainment Pulls the Plug on ‘ET Canada’ Amidst ‘Turbulent’ Advertising Terrain

Canadian media and entertainment company Corus Entertainment Inc. (TSE: CJR) announced having resolved to cancel its long-running television program, ET Canada. Corus will be ending production of ET Canada from October 6 following 18 seasons.

ET Canada is an entertainment news show that has been a staple of Canadian television for nearly two decades. The show which airs on Global Television provides viewers with the latest news and interviews from the world of entertainment, including Hollywood stars and Canadian celebrities.

The company blames challenging advertising market as the main in the cancellation and the impending demise of on the cost of producing a daily show.

The show will no longer be produced and all social media and websites related to the brand will be decommissioned,” said Corus.

In the statement, Corus points out that the media landscape has undergone significant changes in recent years, with advertisers shifting their focus to digital platforms and streaming services. This shift has created challenges for traditional television networks like Global Television, which have relied on advertising revenue to support their programming.

Corus Entertainment failed to reveal how many people worked on the show of if any of them would be employed elsewhere in the organization.
